IEEE 802.11X Standards


802.11g is the latest standard and promises to be the most popular format in the future. Running at 2.4GHz frequency, it combines the speed of the 802.11a and backward compatibility with 802.11b. It is designed for larger networks and small business.

802.11a runs at a frequency of 5.15 to 5.35 GHz. It is designed for Large businesses concerned with security.

Max. Speed: 54 MBPS, Encryption: 152 bit WEP / 256 AES, Discrete Channels: 8, Max. Range: 10 ft.


802.11b operates in the 2.4 GHz radio spectrum and was the first 802.11 standard to be released and have commercial products available. It is designed for entry level and home networks.

Max. Speed: 11 MBPS, Encryption: 128 bit WEP, Discrete Channels: 3, Max. Range: 30 ft.
